Short answer

Why Is My Zapier Mapped Field Blank?

A mapped Zapier field is blank when the live trigger omits it, the wrong sample path was selected, a previous step did not run, or the field moved inside an array or nested object. Open the affected run, trace the field backward through Data In and Data Out, then remap using a fresh representative sample and add explicit blank handling.

Common causes

  • The trigger sample included a field that some live records omit.
  • A field was renamed or its payload path changed.
  • A path, filter, search, or code step returns no value for this run.
  • The desired value is nested in line items and cannot map as a single scalar.

Diagnostic steps

  1. Open a failed run and start at the blank action input.
  2. Move backward step by step until the value first disappears or changes shape.
  3. Load a fresh sample containing the field and remap the exact output token.
  4. Add a fallback or stop condition when the value is genuinely optional.

Example

A form’s company field was optional in production but populated in the editor sample. Add a fallback label or filter records that require a company.

Caveats

A placeholder shown in the editor is not proof that every live event includes the value. Avoid sending literal “null” or “undefined” to downstream apps.
